MSNBC Retracts False Palin Story; Others Duped - FOXNews.com Elections

MSNBC, Obama's on-air "partner," made a false and derogatory claim about Sarah Palin, and claims it was the "victim" of a hoax. Hmmm....

The job of a news agency is to report events of consequence truthfully and accurately; in my mind, no news agency can be the victim of a hoax, because of the checks that must be in place. In all my journalism classes and experience, the overarching thing stressed is to get confirmation; to make sure the story is true before moving with it. MSNBC has shown itself to be nothing but a bunch of pikers - rank amateurs - in journalism.

This comes on the heels of Chris Matthews saying that his job as a journalist was to help Obama succeed; I kid you not.

Here is further proof that MSNBC cannot be taken seriously as a news entity.

MSNBC Retracts False Palin Story; Others Duped - FOXNews.com Elections:
"NEW YORK -- MSNBC was the victim of a hoax when it reported that an adviser to John McCain had identified himself as the source of an embarrassing story about former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, the network said Wednesday.

David Shuster, an anchor for the cable news network, said on air Monday that Martin Eisenstadt, a McCain policy adviser, had come forth and identified himself as the source of a FOX News Channel story saying Palin had mistakenly believed Africa was a country instead of a continent.

Eisenstadt identifies himself on a blog as a senior fellow at the Harding Institute for Freedom and Democracy. Yet neither he nor the institute exist; each is part of a hoax dreamed up by a filmmaker named Eitan Gorlin and his partner, Dan Mirvish, the New York Times reported Wednesday."
